INDY car racing occurs on various road courses across the United States, with some of the races occurring on oval courses and even in Japan.
The cars that they use are open wheeled, open cockpit cars similar to that of the Formula 1 series, all of the cars are powered by Honda V8 engines, also teams have the option of two different chassis, the chassis are manufactured by Dallara and Panoz where each feature their own unique characteristics in design for things like air intake and aerodynamics, however the overall size and weight of the cars are regulated to keep the cars fairly equal.
The cars also all run Firestone tires per regulations to help keep the field competitive.
Some of the famous teams involved in INDY racing are Andretti Green Racing, Team Penske and A.J. Foyt Racing.
The drivers that are most notably affiliated and recognized with INDY racing are Marco Andretti, Helio Castroneves and Danica Patrick.
One driver that races for Andretti Green Racing is Hideki Mutoh of Japan. He has been racing since the age of 12 when he raced Karts, but has only been involved in INDY racing for a short time when he made his first start in September of 2007.
Some of these drivers also compete in other series like CHAMP CAR as well.(Dan)
